I believe in the Love and Logic approach to classroom management.  I also believe that the purpose of discipline is to correct behavior and not to punish.  I want my students to have choice and direct their own learning as much as possible.

Classroom Expectations

My ultimate goal is to give students the opportunity to solve their own problems with guidance from me when needed. I let students know when their behavior is a distraction to my teaching and I ask them if they would like my help to solve the problem or if they believe they can fix it themselves.

Classroom Trophy

Each class can earn five points a day for demonstrating expected behavior.  One point each for walking in quietly, lining up quietly, listening carefully, working hard and being respectful.  This idea is taken from the book 'Classroom Management for Art, Music and PE Teachers'.  You can find more information about the Music Trophy here.
